JIGZUP |
JIGZUP
is Schroer’s first CD of original music, released
in the fall of 1993.
It is half of a double
project (the other half is WHIRLED). These two albums
were recorded together, but released separately. JIGZUP
is a collection of original reels, jigs and waltzes, done
up with plenty of creative and tasty production. WHIRLED
concentrated on wilder multi-metered material, sonic landscapes,
and a perspective that was more ‘World music’
than the traditionally based ‘JIGZUP’.
However, if JIGZUP was
based in tradition, it was also forward thinking. “What
if Don Messer had collaborated with the Beatles…”
It was designed as a fiddle album for non-fiddlers –
ie, lots of interesting arrangements, different flavours,
a rich feast of beautiful and lyrical melodies and musical
surprises.
A few months after its
release, it was nominated for a Juno in the Roots &
Traditional category. This served as a springboard for
starting up the band Stewed Tomatoes.
The
album continues to be a favourite with music fans everywhere.
